Edible jewelry, a delicious and fashionable form of jewelry
A great craft for a kid’s party is candy jewelry making. What’s better than to be able to make a craft and then eat it! The key is to buy or have items on hand with circles in it. Cereals such as Fruit Loops and Cheerios work great. As well as candies such as Life Savers, Sour Punch, and cut up Red Vines (Twizzlers hole is too small, so don’t use that brand.) A couple other items to use on the necklace are beads and pasta such as penne.
Supplies
- Burlap String or Cooking String
- Various Candy, cereals, charms with holes. Candies: Life Savers, Red Vines, Sour Punch
When I did this activity with my daughter and her friends we used candy and a couple cute charms and beads. For the string, I went with Burlap that I found on Amazon. The string was nice and thin, the only problem was that the edges fringed a little bit, so prior to the craft event, I cut out all the strings and put glue on the ends of each piece. Other string that works well is bakers string or plastic string. The key is making sure it is thin enough to fit the charm holes.
Side Note: A good hostess always tests her craft ahead of time to make sure you don’t run into any problems once your guest arrives. 🙂
Charms
I put out bowls of different candies and charms for the girls to choose from.
You can buy a pack of various non-edible charms that are very inexpensive on Amazon. I went with Loom Band Silicone Bracelets and used pieces form Melissa and Doug’s Wood Bead Set.
The girls had a blast making and eating these necklaces and by adding charms and beads, they actually had something to take home. I let the girls pick their own design and put as many charms as they wanted on the string.
